Mr. Sinke decided he wanted to give back so he began a fundraising campaign, called United For Others (known as
Team UFO). His plan was simple -- collect cans and bottles and use the deposit-returns as a way to donate to the Hotel
Dieu Shaver Foundation.
His original goal was to donate $2,000 back to the healthcare facility within a year. But in just a matter of weeks he
handed over a cheque for $1,000!
"His drive and passion is remarkable," said Kevin Vallier, Development Director of Hotel Dieu Shaver. "You can see why
he did so well with his rehab with an attitude like that. All of the (hospital) employees and the Foundation are so grateful
for his efforts."
UPDATE: June 2011
Mr. Sinke delivered his 10th cheque in the amount of $1,000.00, for a grand total of $10,000 since March 2010! He wants
to keep going. If you are part of a community group or business and would like to get involved by collecting empty bottles
and cans to support Mr. Sinke, he asks that you call him at 905-646-1238. To learn more about the latest from UFO, click

tirelessly with his therapy team, Mr. Sinke made tremendous progress. "The
doctors, the nurses, the therapists, everyone was so wonderful," said Sinke in an
interview with the St. Catharines Standard (February 2009). "So much
compassion and honesty. They give you hope, which is good, because I needed
that . . . But they also teach you how to help yourself," he went on to say in the
interview.
